I'm restructuring. Here's why — and why now is the best time to get in.

Hi Reader,

I've been thinking about you a lot lately. Not in a generic "my audience" kind of way. In the specific way that happens when I'm in the middle of a parent meeting and I think — this is exactly what the people reading my emails are dealing with on a Tuesday night.

I worked with a family recently where both the parent and the child were navigating learning differences. And what struck me wasn't how complicated their situation was. It was how much they already understood about their child. They knew the patterns. They knew the triggers. What they were missing was a path forward that accounted for all of it at once — the child's brain, the parent's brain, the family schedule, the school situation, the emotional weight they were both carrying. A path that didn't assume their family would just slot into someone else's system.

That's been sitting with me. Because it's the exact reason I'm making some changes around here.

Your Dyslexic Child Isn't "Below Grade Level"

That phrase gets applied to kids with dyslexia more than almost any other. And it almost always misses what's actually going on. This one is worth 11 minutes.

FROM THE BLOG

The Literacy Crisis Is Real — And It's Hitting Dyslexic Readers Hardest

Three out of four fourth-graders with disabilities scored below basic reading proficiency in 2024. Here's what that means for your child — and what you can actually do about it.

What Did You Notice This Week?

The Routines arc is done. The Literacy Crisis series is live. If something landed for you this week — a video, a strategy, a moment with your kid — come share it. That's what the community is for.

ONE THING

One thing before the week starts.

No two brains are identical. No two families are identical. I can show you what works. I can explain the research. I can walk you through the strategies. But I can't hand you a plan that runs your family the way you need it to run. That part has to come from you — with the right foundation under you first. That's what I'm building toward.

Special Gift: A new resource dropped this week: The Reading Clarity Checklist and I wanted to be sure you had access.

IMPORTANT! SOMETHING IS CHANGING

I want to be upfront with you about something, because you've been here and that matters to me.

I'm restructuring how Learning in a Distracted World is organized, and I want you to understand why.

Right now, there are multiple places to start. Multiple courses. Multiple options. And if you have ADHD — or you're raising a child who does — you know exactly what happens when you walk into a room full of interesting things and have to choose where to start. You open three doors, go partway through each one, and end up feeling like you didn't actually finish anything.

I've been doing that to you. Not on purpose. But I've been doing it.

So here's what's changing.

The Family Learning Foundation Course is the new front door. Not one of several options — the foundation. It includes the Destination Success Boot Camp, Decoding Your Struggling Reader, the Routines Starter Kit, and Start Here: Membership Preview. Everything in one place, with a clear path into the membership when you're ready to go deeper.

When you've gone through the Foundation Course, you'll know exactly which areas of your family's life need more depth. Maybe it's routines. Maybe it's your child's reading and decoding. Maybe it's the coaching layer where we go deeper together. That's what the membership is for. But going into the membership before you have the foundation is like trying to run before you've figured out how to walk in your own specific terrain.

The Foundation Course sets that up. That's the point of it.

WHY NOW IS THE TIME TO GET IN

The Family Learning Foundation Course is live right now at the Founding Member rate — $27 for everything in the bundle. That rate closes on October 31st. After that, the price moves to $47, and it'll keep growing from there as new content is added.

I'm not doing a countdown timer. I'm just telling you plainly: if you've been thinking about getting started, October 31st is the deadline that matters. Every piece of content added after you enroll is yours automatically at your locked-in price — forever.

SHARE YOUR STORY

Takes about 5 minutes — a quick video (1 minute) or a few written sentences, whichever feels easier. The most helpful testimonials are specific: one real moment, not a general 'this helped.

Has "storm mode" saved a homework night at your house yet?
If naming the difference between full sail and storm mode has changed how a hard night goes, that's exactly the kind of story that helps the next parent.

Vol. 10 October 25, 2026 Hi Reader, I've been teaching successful learning habits for years, with whole classes and small groups, from second grade up through fifth. Back when I worked as an instructional coach, I brought these same habits into classrooms across my school. One way I do it is a small group I call Building Successful Learning Habits. It's for students who need a little more support with habits that haven't clicked yet. They aren't bad kids. Not even close. They just haven't...

Wednesday Community News #3 · October 21, 2026 Hi Reader, IN THE COMMUNITY THIS WEEK Here is one of the most common things parents tell me: "They can read every word. So why don't they understand it?" I wrote a post in the free community about it, and I would love to hear what you see at home. Does your child read a sentence smoothly and then shrug when you ask what it meant? Come tell me. JOIN THE CONVERSATION Not in the community yet? It's free: join here Short on time? Vol. 9 October 18, 2026 Hi Reader, Two Sundays ago we talked about why schools are pulling back on screens. Last Sunday we talked about why text-to-speech is a tool and not a shortcut. This week is the skill underneath both of those conversations: what your child does in the few seconds before they accept an answer from an AI tool. ADHD & DYSLEXIA AWARENESS MONTH: FAMILY CONNECTION Some children have ADHD. Some have dyslexia. Many have both, and from the outside the two can look a lot alike....
